AOLs - Arrows of Light

As 5th Graders reach the end of their Cub Scouts journey and decide whether to continue on into a Scout Troop, they are given the opportunity to earn the coveted Arrow of Light. Our AOL den meets on Thursdays at 6:30 in the Cafeteria of Ducketts Lane Elementary School in Elkridge.  In addition, the AOLs visit a number of Scout Troops in the area to decide how they want to continue their scouting journey.

The AOLs are lead by Den Leader Ms. Joanne and Asst. Den Leader Ms. Sharon with a lot of parent helpers in the mix too.  Under their mentorship, the AOLs participate in adventures and activities to become more engaged with their communities and develop leadership skills.  AOLs are given the opportunity to plan their own campout, with adult supervision of course, but the Scouts learn to work together to ensure everyone's needs are met.  Every adventure encourages self-sufficiency with an eye on preservation of the environment and betterment of the community.

Towards the conclusion of their 5th Grade year, AOLs earn their Arrow of Light, with a mark to signify every step taken in their Cub Scouts journey.  The Scouts then choose how to bridge into their next journey.  As they reach the end of the Cub Scout trail, we celebrate the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another, carrying the Cub Scout motto of Do Your Best as they journey on.
